Early Life and Career:

Chris Gayle was born on September 21, 1979, in Kingston, Jamaica. His father Dudley Gayle was a policeman, and his mother, Hazel Gayle, was a domestic helper. Gayle grew up in the Kingston suburb of Lucas Street, where he spent most of his childhood playing cricket in the streets with his friends.

Gayle began his cricketing career at a young age, playing for Lucas Cricket Club. He made his debut for Jamaica in 1998, at the age of 19, and his List A debut for the West Indies in 1999. He was initially a middle-order batsman but soon established himself as an opener.

International Career:

Gayle made his Test debut for the West Indies in 2000, against Zimbabwe in Port of Spain. He struggled initially but soon found his feet at the international level. In 2002, he scored his first Test century, against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. Gayle became a regular member of the West Indies Test and ODI teams and established himself as one of the most dangerous openers in the world.

In 2005, Gayle scored his first ODI century, against New Zealand in Napier. He was named West Indies Player of the Year in 2006 and went on to score his first Test double century, against South Africa in Cape Town, in the same year. In 2007, he was named Vice-Captain of the West Indies team for the World Cup in the Caribbean.

In 2009, Gayle was appointed Captain of the West Indies Test and ODI teams. He led the team for three years and had mixed success. In 2010, he became the first West Indian to score a triple century in Tests, against Sri Lanka in Galle.

Gayle continued to be a key player for the West Indies in all formats of the game. He was part of the team that won the World T20 in 2012 and 2016. He was also a member of the team that reached the final of the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Indian Premier League (IPL) Career:

Gayle’s explosive batting style made him a hot commodity in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural IPL season in 2008, but it was with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) that he established himself as a T20 legend.

Gayle joined RCB in 2011 and made an immediate impact. He scored a century on his debut for the team and went on to score the first-ever T20 double century in 2013, against Pune Warriors India. He was named Player of the Tournament in IPL 2011 and helped RCB reach the final in 2011, 2016, and 2018.

Gayle’s association with RCB ended in 2020, and he was bought by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). In 2021, he became the first player in IPL history to score 14,000 runs.
